Favorite verse: Be still know that I am God - Psalm 46:10

Ron Woeste
Elder of Outreach

Ron learned a reverence for God as a young child being the seventh child of nine in a rural town in western North Dakota. Church attendance and observance were always a priority but as a young man, Ron reserved God for Sundays. The tragic death of a young cousin opened his heart and during his freshman year of college, after attending FCA Bible studies and a gospel music event, he went forward and accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior. He soon left that college and enrolled in Bible college in a small town in North Dakota to grow his faith. He later decided to pursue electrical technology at a junior college where he met and married his wife, Julie. They have been married over 44 years. Ron worked in the power generation industry for 42 years, 23 of those years on the management team. Ron and Julie have three grown children and seven grand children. Ron has many years experience with coaching youth sports. He was the education director at Central Lutheran in Elk River, MN in the late 90’s, Deacon at Word of Life CMA, Coon Rapids, MN, door to door evangelism and most important to his heart he and Julie home schooled for a few years before a family illness sent the kids back to school. In 2019 friends recommended Living Word church. As winter Texans the couple found wonderful worship, solid truthful teaching and friends that have become family. After a few years the couple felt the call to make RGV their permanent home.

Favorite verse: Romans 3:23,24 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

Dave Barnes
Elder over Stewardship

I was raised with a younger brother and sister in Golden, Colorado by good parents who were not practicing Christians. Thanks to my mother's influence, we occasionally attended a Methodist church in my younger years. I graduated from the Colorado School of Mines with a petroleum engineering degree and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1979.

You'd be more hard-pressed to find a more prideful, rebellious towards our Lord, and blasphemous young man than I was up to age 27. On July 4th, 1989, the Lord in His mercy, laid me low and caused me to begin to seek Him. As a pedestrian I was hit-and-run by a pick-up truck and fortunate that there was a witness to call for help. Initially not expected to live, then not expected to walk, by God's grace I left the hospital after 3 months on crutches and with two leg braces. I was hospitalized for 2 months the following year with added complications.

I married Diana in 1987. We have two sons - Drake and Robert. Robert is married to Kathryn and their son Shepherd is our only grandchild to date. I left the oilfield in 1990 and began a financial planning practice. We moved to McAllen in 1994 and I continue to run a financial planning practice with my son Drake.

After the Lord awakened me, I was a very slow student and didn't finally accept by grace the Lord Jesus Christ as my savior for almost 20 years. Diana and I benefited from Biblical, apostolic teaching at Church of the king in McAllen where I led praise and worship service for twelve years and served as an elder for eight years. We found Living Word in the fall of 2020 and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Christ in this body.

Although Ana was told by a doctor she wouldn’t be able to conceive, within the first year of marriage she conceived and nine months later gave birth to Elisa.   Elisa, was quickly followed by Karina, Monica and finally Erika. At the time “life was good” and Pedro didn’t feel the need for Jesus but he came to Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at the approximate age of 21 after realizing the painful sacrifice that Jesus experienced on his behalf. He has been a member of Living Word EFC Church for 12 years and is currently serving as a Deacon. He also has served at Living Word as an Elder and a Sunday School Teacher for the last 8 years, including 6 years as a Youth Pastor.

Vision Statement
Living Word EFC Vision Statement

We strive towards being a church that because its members know God deeply, contends to free people from the effects of sin and the present, ungodly times, in a Christ-like manner. Knowing God deeply — loving people fully.

Purpose Statement
Living Word Evangelical Free Church Purpose Statement

To the glory of God, Living Word Evangelical Free Church is established to carry out the God ordained responsibilities of the local church. The love of God Almighty compels us to worship Him and thereby live out his plan of expanding his rule over evil through OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST'S work; first within our own lives, then within our church, the community, our country and the rest of the world. Dependent upon and enabled by THE HOLY SPIRIT, we seek to help people know GOD OUR FATHER as we obey Him by faith in making disciples by five essentials:

  1. Worship: to inwardly give highest value to the Holy One and take Him in as one's own very life; outwardly, to orderly plan the arrangement of activities that enhance the giving of highest value to the Holy One and the taking Him as one's own very life.
  2. Community: to receive from and give to one another, materially and spiritually because of their participation in what God is; through The Lord Jesus Christ.
  3. Christian Education: to instruct and model experiential knowledge of the life giving, biblical, (therefore sacrosanct) truths, both at the individual and corporate levels in the church.
  4. Outreach: to obey God to love neighbors by reaching out to communicate the truth of the gospel in love.
  5. Stewardship: to wisely manage all resources, material and non material, entrusted by God.

...............until Our Lord Jesus' glorious return!!!
Vision Statement
Coming soon.
EFCA Statement of Faith
EFCA Statement of Faith
Adopted by the Conference on June 19, 2019

The Evangelical Free Church of America is an association of autonomous churches united around these theological convictions:

God

1. We believe in one God, Creator of all things, holy, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in a loving unity of three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Having limitless knowledge and sovereign power, God has graciously purposed from eternity to redeem a people for Himself and to make all things new for His own glory.

The Bible

2. We believe that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.

The Human Condition

3. We believe that God created Adam and Eve in His image, but they sinned when tempted by Satan. In union with Adam, human beings are sinners by nature and by choice, alienated from God, and under His wrath. Only through God’s saving work in Jesus Christ can we be rescued, reconciled and renewed.

Jesus Christ

4. We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. Jesus—Israel's promised Messiah—was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and Advocate.

The Work of Christ

5. We believe that Jesus Christ, as our representative and substitute, shed His blood on the cross as the perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. His atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only ground for salvation.

The Holy Spirit

6. We believe that the Holy Spirit, in all that He does, glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ. He convicts the world of its guilt. He regenerates sinners, and in Him they are baptized into union with Christ and adopted as heirs in the family of God. He also indwells, illuminates, guides, equips and empowers believers for Christ-like living and service.

The Church

7. We believe that the true church comprises all who have been justified by God's grace through faith alone in Christ alone. They are united by the Holy Spirit in the body of Christ, of which He is the Head. The true church is manifest in local churches, whose membership should be composed only of believers. The Lord Jesus mandated two ordinances, baptism and the Lord’s Supper, which visibly and tangibly express the gospel. Though they are not the means of salvation, when celebrated by the church in genuine faith, these ordinances confirm and nourish the believer.

Christian Living

8. We believe that God's justifying grace must not be separated from His sanctifying power and purpose. God commands us to love Him supremely and others sacrificially, and to live out our faith with care for one another, compassion toward the poor and justice for the oppressed. With God’s Word, the Spirit’s power, and fervent prayer in Christ’s name, we are to combat the spiritual forces of evil. In obedience to Christ’s commission, we are to make disciples among all people, always bearing witness to the gospel in word and deed.

Christ’s Return

9. We believe in the personal, bodily and glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ. The coming of Christ, at a time known only to God, demands constant expectancy and, as our blessed hope, motivates the believer to godly living, sacrificial service and energetic mission.

Response and Eternal Destiny

10. We believe that God commands everyone everywhere to believe the gospel by turning to Him in repentance and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that God will raise the dead bodily and judge the world, assigning the unbeliever to condemnation and eternal conscious punishment and the believer to eternal blessedness and joy with the Lord in the new heaven and the new earth, to the praise of His glorious grace. Amen.
